[Movies] Pittsburgh Premiere Of Jack Reacher Postponed Due To Sandy Hook Shooting
Posted by Joseph Lee on 12.15.2012

NME reports that the premiere of Jack Reacher has been postponed due to the shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary School. It was set to premiere tonight in Pittsburgh.

Paramount Pictures released the following statement: "Due to the terrible tragedy in Newtown, Conn., and out of honor and respect for the families of the victims whose lives were senselessly taken, we are postponing the Pittsburgh premiere of Jack Reacher. Our hearts go out to all those who lost loved ones."

A shooter, believed to be 20-year-old Adam Lanza, opened fire at a Connecticut elementary school on Friday. He killed 27 people including 20 children. It is believed he killed himself after the shooting.

The postponement of the premiere seems reasonable given the plot of the film. Cruise stars as Jack Reacher, the character from the novels by British author Lee Child. Reacher is a former military police officer who becomes a vigilante. In the movie, he begins hunting for a sniper that killed five people in a major US city. The film also stars Rosamund Pike, Robert Duvall, Richard Jenkins, David Oyelowo and Werner Herzog. It will be released in theaters on December 21.
