Steve Carell plays a magician...
USA Today has two photos from The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, which will be released on March 15. The first trailer will be out on Friday. The film stars Steve Carell, Jim Carrey, Steve Buscemi, Alan Arkin, Jay Mohr and Michael Herbig.
Carell said of his hairstyle in the movie: "This is a first, even in real life. I never achieved mullet-ness in all of my years. It's pretty fantastic, isn't it? There is actually a multitude of scintillating looks that I rock in this movie. From the mullet to the lion's mane to a frosted coif."
Director Don Scardino added: "This is definitely a wig picture. The hair budget was killer. Jim Carrey wears a really outrageous one."
Carell and Buscemi play popular Las Vegas magicians who are upstaged when long-haired street musician Steve Gray begins taking away their fans. Wonderstone then begins to take on outrageous tricks to get more attention, including being elevated above the Las Vegas Strip in a glass box. The trick fails and causes the partnership to split up. Burt Wonderstone eventually is reduced to performing in nursing homes.
Carell said: "He's the very edgy magician who begins to pull the attention from Burt and Anton. He's my nemesis. Filming that was more unnerving than I expected. The scariest part was that you could look straight down below you. (Buscemi) was at least as scared as I was. But we had fun."
He also said that he had to endure spray-tans to prepare for his role. He said: "That's among the most humiliating of experiences. To be in your bikini underwear and be sprayed head-to-toe in a glossy bronze hue. But this is a very self-centered, arrogant sort of a peacock and I felt he should look that way."
They also trained with illusionist David Copperfield, who served as the film's consultant. Scardino added: "It's a great trick, very impressive. Copperfield took note of the hair changes and said, 'I know them all, I went through the same ones.'"
