Anime headed to the big screen...
Gale Anne Hurd's Valhalla Entertainment, the team behind The Walking Dead, has announced that they are teaming with Toei Animation and All Nippon Entertainment Works for a feature film based on Toei's anime franchise Gaiking. It is the first development deal for ANEW and marks the beginning of a push by Toei to get into the US marketplace. The propery is centered on a young man who is recruited as the lead pilot for a Super Robot called Gaiking, piloting it to fight of an alien race trying to take over the planet.
Hurd commented on the news, saying, "I'm extremely excited to be working on Gaiking, which marks a huge step forward in adapting one of the best Japanese IP for a global audience."
Hurd will be lead producer on the project, with Yoshi Ikezawa of Toei Animation and Joseph Chou also producing.
