[Movies] J.J. Abrams Explains Why He Turned Down Star Wars: Episode VII
Posted by Jeremy Thomas on 12.25.2012

J.J. Abrams recently spoke with Empire to promote Star Trek Into Darkness and revealed why he passed on Star Wars: Episode VII. Abrams says that there were early discussions but that he was too much of a fan to take up a directing job on the film.

"There were the very early conversations and I quickly said that because of my loyalty to Star Trek, and also just being a fan, I wouldn't even want to be involved in the next version of those things," Abrams said. "I declined any involvement very early on. I'd rather be in the audience not knowing what was coming, rather than being involved in the minutiae of making them."

Star Wars Episode VII does not yet have an announced director; it hits theaters in Summer 2015.
