[Movies] The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Crosses the $500 Million Worldwide Mark
Posted by Jeremy Thomas on 12.27.2012

The first film in The Hobbit trilogy has crossed its latest milestone. New Line and MGM have announced that The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey has passed the $500 million mark in worldwide box office take. That number includes $179.7 domestically and $344 million overseas for an exact total of $523.7 million after two weeks.

The film currently ranks at #11 on the domestic chart for 2012 as a whole, with the same ranking on the worldwide 2012 chart. It should easily pass Men in Black III's $535.3 million by the weekend to hit the top 10 in worldwide grosses for the year, and could well have passed Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted's $216.4 million and Dr. Seuss' The Lorax's $214 million to hit #8 on the domestic chart by then as well.
