She'll join Michael Fassbender...
New Mexico newspaper The Albuquerque Business First (via NME) reports that Maggie Gyllenhaal will star in the comedy Frank with Michael Fassbender. The newspaper claims it saw her name on a local announcement but doesn't know what part she will play.
The film is directed by Lenny Abrahamson from a script by Jon Ronson (author of The Men Who Stare at Goats and The Psychopath Test) and Peter Straughan (Tinker Tailor Solider Spy). Abrahamson's previous films include Adam and Paul, Garage and What Richard Did). The film co-stars Scoot McNairy (Monsters, In Search of a Midnight Kiss) and Domhnall Gleeson (Anna Karenina).
The film follows a young musician (Gleeson), who joins a band led by odd singer Frank (Fassbender). Filming will being in New Mexico and Dublin later this year
It is based on the life of musician and comedian Chris Sievey, singer for the band The Freshlies and better known as Frank Sidebottom. Ronson was once a member Sidebottom's Oh Blimey Big Band. He said he was "thrilled" to work on a project with such "amazing people" attached to it. He said the story is "a fictional story inspired by great outsider musicians like Frank Sidebottom, Daniel Johnston and Captain Beefheart."
A statue of Sidebottom is set to be unveiled in his adopted hometown of Timperley in Greater Manchester on April 1, his birthday.
