[Movies] Frank Darabont Rewriting Script For Godzilla For Warner Bros

Meanwhile, Legendary Pictures is having trouble with the producers...
Deadline reports that Frank Darabont (The Walking Dead) has been hired by producer/financier Legendary Pictures to re-write the script for Godzilla before the March start date of production. The original script was by Max Borenstein (The Seventh Son).
Meanwhile, Warner Bros producers Dan Lin and Roy Lee, who helped Legendary get a deal with Toho to make the film, are now in a battle with Legendary, who controls the rights and wants to drop them from the film. Right now, the 3D film will be produced by Legendary's Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni, along with Brian Rogers, who was also involved with the Toho deal. Gareth Edwards will direct and the film will be released on May 16, 2014.
The situation may become a legal battle as Lin and Lee refused to reduce the fees they signed on for when the original deal was made. Legendary feels it can get ride of them by paying them money upfront to leave as part of a "pay or play" clause. However, this would give them no credit or back-end with the film, and considering how big Godzilla is as a franchise, this means a lot.
Legendary is also citing Lin for mentioning the project in interviews for film blogs. Warner Bros will distribute the film worldwide except in Japan (where Toho will handle it). Lin in particular has fifteen years at Warner Bros as an executive and producer. His latest project, Gangster Squad will premiere tonight and get released on Friday.
