He's not giving up...
Despite the fact that he has not yet been able to get it off the ground--even with Tom Cruise attached as a star--Guillermo Del Toro says that he's still hoping for At the Mountains of Madness to find a home. Del Toro spoke with the Playlist about his planned adaptation of the H.P. Lovecraft project, which was set up at Universal but didn't get a greenlight because Del Toro refused to compromise on the budget or the R rating.
"I'm going to try it one more time," Del Toro said of the project. "Once more into the dark abyss. We're gonna do a big presentation of the project again at the start of the year and see if any [studio's] interested ... Tom is still attached. I think it would be so fantastic to make it with him. He's been such a great ally of the project."
As to his previous concerns that the film's plot may be a bit too close to Prometheus, he said, "I saw it finally...yes, there are things in common, but, you know, screw it. Lovecraft was there first."
