The director of Snakes on a Plane, Shark Night 3D and the second and fifth Final Destination films has passed away. Deadline reports that David R. Ellis died this morning in Johannesburg, South Africa where he was prepping to shoot a live-action adaptation of the Japanese animated property KITE, starring Samuel L. Jackson. The cause of death is as yet unknown.
Ellis started off as an actor and a stuntman before directing his first feature film, Homeward Bound II: Lost in San Francisco. Ellis them moved on to genre filmmaking with Final Destination 2, The Final Destination, Cellular, Shark Night, Asylum and Snakes on a Plane.
