[TV] Ratings: American Idol Premiere Down From Last Year

But it's still enough for FOX to dominate...
American Idol returned last night for its 12th season and while it helped FOX dominate the night, its rating were down 19% in viewers and the demographic, especially since last year drew 21.9 million viewers. However, last year's premiere was down 24% from the season 10 review, so the show didn't lose as many viewers. Meanwhile, Criminal Minds had its largest audience of the season for CBS and ABC's comedies (including Modern Family) did well against Idol. Nashville also increased for its hour.
FOX won with 17.8 million viewers and a 10.2 rating/15 share in households. It was followed by CBS (10.7 million, 7.0/11), ABC (7.5 million, 4.7/7). NBC (2.9 million, 2.0/3) and The CW (2.6 million, 1.5/2).
In the adults 18-49 demographic, FOX won again with a 6.0 rating, followed by ABC (2.5), CBS (2.1), The CW (1.0) and NBC (0.8).
