The lawsuit heats up...
Variety reports that producers Dan Lin, Roy Leen, and Doug Davison have filed a counterclaim against Legendary Pictures' lawsuit involving the producers being removed for the new Godzilla reboot.
The producers filed the counterclaim on Thursday which accuses the studio of avoiding paying them millions of dollars. Legendary has suggested the producers found them a screenwriter and contributed unused notes. The counterclaim also says that the studio had "pleaded" with Lin and Lee to develop the project in 2009 and obtain the writes. It alleges a promise was made in writing, "You know you and your partners will be well treated throughout."
From the counterclaim document: "Apparently, Legendary's idea of treating the producers who brought them Godzilla well included concocting a scheme to force them off the project, depriving them of their screen credit and substantial fixed and backend compensation in order to keep more of the money and to aggrandize themselves."
Production is still slated to start on to the new Godzilla movie in March with Gareth Edwards set to direct with Frank Darabont expected to do rewrites.
