Due to complaints about them being offensive...
I knew I should have picked up some of these when I had the chance. The LA Times reports that the Weinstein Company has asked toymakers NECA to stop producing their Django Unchained dolls due to complains that they were offensive and trivialized slavery. The figures, which included likenesses of the characters portrayed by Jamie Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio, Samuel L. Jackson, Kerry Washington and others, were criticized by the Rev. Al Sharpton's National Action Network who called for a a national boycott.
The Weinstein Company has released the following statement about them: "In light of the reaction to the Django Unchained action figures, we are removing them from distribution. We have tremendous respect for the audience and it was never our intent to offend anyone. They were meant to be collectibles for people 17 years and older, which is the audience for the film."
