[Gossip] Michael Winner Dead At 77

IGN reports that Michael Winner, director of Death Wish has passed away at the age of 77 after complications due to liver disease in London.

He was born in Hampstead in 1935. He worked as a newspaper columnist, restaurant critic and film critic before directing over thirty films of his own. He also directed The Mechanic, which also starred Bronson, and the 1978 version of The Big Sleep, which starred Robert Mitchum as Philip Marlowe.

Winner spent his later years writing restaurant reviews for The Sunday Times. He also appeared in a series of commercials for an insurance company on British TV.
