According to Variety, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is expected to break the $1 billion barrier by March. The film has made $921 million thus far, and has not yet opened in China. Projections have the film breaking the million-dollar barrier in March, which would make it the 15th film to do so. Last year three films broke the barrier, which were The Avengers ($1.51 billion), The Dark Knight Rises ($1.08 billion) and Skyfall ($1.04 billion).
