Deadline reports that Sean Patrick Flanery has been cast for Dexter season eight. He will play Jacob Elroy, the ex-cop owner of a private investigation company in Miami.
Earlier this month, Showtime entertainment president David Nevins wouldn't say if the eighth season is the last. This was rumored before season seven brought in huge ratings. He said: "I think I will clarify before Dexter goes on the air for this next season (in June). There's a clear end game in place."
It's unknown if the Elroy character is a part of that end game.
Meanwhile, EW.com adds that Charlotte Rampling will also join the case as a neuro-psychiatrist who works with young psychopaths and profiling criminals in unorthodox ways. The role has a "significant impact" on the story.
Rampling is known for her roles in the 1967 TV show The Avengers, Stardust Memories (1980), The Verdict (1982) and The Duchess (2008).
The show will return early for the new season on June 30 to be the lead-in for new Showtime series Ray Donovan, starring Liev Schreiber.
