Joaquin Phoenix is joining Paul Thomas Anderson's next film. THR reports that the actor is in talks to sign on for the film, which is an adaptation of the 2009 Thomas Pynchon novel.
The film is set in 1969-70 Los Angeles and centers on a pot-smoking detective on a kidnapping case. Anderson has been working on the film for a few years now.
