- J.J. Abrams has officially been named the director for Star Wars: Episode VII, but it may not come out in 2015 as first announced. Word is that Abrams has not committed to that release date, and that he will change it if the development process requires it.
Also, as far as Abrams taking the job, Lucasfilm's new chief Kathleen Kennedy contacted Abrams in early January and went to visit the filmmaker at the Santa Monica offices of his Bad Robot production company. She made a pitch to Abrams in person, and he ended up taking the job.
