Lucasfilm now focusing on Episode VII...
Deadline reports that the planned 3D re-releases for the Star Wars prequel trilogy movies Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith have been shelved. Lucasfilm now aims to focus on the upcoming Episode VII release instead.
It is not clear how much post-conversion work was done on the prequels, but it is still possible both cfilms could get a theatrical re-release at some point in the future or see the 3D versions released directly to Blu-ray.
There had been also plans for the eventual 3D re-release of the original trilogy, though no release dates had been announced. Those plans now also appear to be off the table for now.
Lucasfilm also released the following statement:
"Lucasfilm has decided to postpone this fall's scheduled release of Star Wars Episodes II and III in 3D. Given the recent development that we are moving forward with a new Star Wars trilogy, we will now focus 100 percent of our efforts on Star Wars: Episode VII in order to ensure the best possible experience for our fans. We will post further information about our 3D release plans at a later date."
