[VIDEO] Guillermo Del Toro's Stop-Motion Pinocchio Not Happening
Posted by Joseph Lee on 01.31.2013

Bleeding Cool reports that Guillermo Del Toro and the Jim Henson Company's stop-motion film of Pinocchio has been canceled. It was an illustrated re-telling of the story by Gris Grimly. Both Grimley and Del Toro were screenwriters with Matthew Robins, a regular Del Toro collaborator.

Concept art and an early maquette had appeared online and Del Toro was planning to record the voices this summer. Tom Waits and Daniel Radcliffe were being considered for roles, with Waits as Gepetto. Grimly posted the update that it was canceled and blamed Frankenweenie.

Grimly posted on Twitter: "Short to the point update on Pinocchio for those inquiring: It appears that this is not the right time for such a superior-adventurous flick. There are people like us out there. But they look at numbers. Frankenweenie was a box office failure to them."

The tweets were later removed.

However he did say that one of his other books, Little Jordan Ray's Muddy Spud will get an adaptation. He added: "I've been working with a studio, adapting Little Jordan Ray's Muddy Spud into a movie. Off to bounce ideas back and forth with them."
