Jeremy Renner in Talks for Kill the Messenger

Deadline reports that Jeremy Renner is in talks to play the lead in the movie Kill the Messenger based on a true story.

The story is about the journalist Gary Webb. Webb was a San Jose Mercury news reported who killed himself after he was the target of a smear campaign when he was linked to a CIA scheme to arm Contra rebels in Nicaragua to import cocaine in California.

The script was written by Peter Landesman based on the books Dark Alliance: The CIA, the Contras, and the Crack Cocaine Explosion by Webb, and Nick Schou's Kill the Messenger: How the CIA's Crack-Cocaine Controversy Destroyed Journalist Gary Webb

Michael Cuesta attached to direct Scott Stuber producing.
