Benedict Cumberbatch is in negotiations to play Alan Turing in The Imitation Game. Deadline reports that the film is written by Graham Moore based on the biography Alan Turing: The Enigma and will be directed by Morten Tyldum.
Turing was a British mathematician who broke the German "Enigma cipher" in World War II and was a pioneer of electronic computer design; he developed the "Turing test" for machine intelligence. In 1952, Turing was forced to reveal his homosexuality and participate in a conversion program; he committed suicide in 1954.
