Did the blackout hurt it?
Ratings for Super Bowl XLVII was down from the last two years. Zap2It reports that the game between the Ravens and 49ers averaged 108.4 million viewers,m down from the 111.3 million for last year's game and 111 million for the 2011 game. That still makes the show the third-watched program in American TV history though.
The show that aired after the game, Elementary, earned 20.8 million viewers and a 7.8 demo rating. While that is obviously the biggest viewership for the show to date, it's the smallest audience for a post-Super Bowl show in a decade; last year's The Voice did 37.6 million by comparison. It is believed that the blackout hurt Elementary, as it pushed the show's start time past 11 PM ET and thus to a point where fewer people were watching television.
