The Hollywood Reporter reports that Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment are developing a CG animated feature based on How the Grinch Stole Christmas!.

Peter Candeland is set to direct the adaptation. The original story was first published in 1957. The book later became an animated special in 1966 and then a live-action hit movie in 2000 directed by Ron Howard and starring Jim Carrey in the lead role.

The book was adapted as an animated special in 1966 and as a live-action feature film in 2000. The latter featured Jim Carrey in the lead. Illumination CEO Chris Melendandri is attached to produce the movie with Seuss' widow, Audrey Geisel on board as an executive producer.
