[Movies] Martin Scorsese To Executive Produce Andrew Lau's Revenge of the Green Dragons
Posted by Joseph Lee on 02.13.2013

Martin Scorsese will executive produce Andrew Lau's Revenge of the Green Dragons, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The gangster film is set in New York and comes six years after Scorsese won his first Oscar with The Departed, an adaptation of Lau's Infernal Affairs.

Lau visited the US last month to go over details of the production after releasing his film The Guillotines last year, along with The Last Tycoon, which he produced. Shooting on Dragons will begin in April. It will be financed by Octane, IM Global's genre-film division. IM Global CEO Stuart Ford and Allen Bain will produce. with Ara Katz and 7th Floor Produtions' Jesse Scolaro, while Scorsese will executive produce alongside Deepak Nayar, Steve Squillante, Michael Bassick and Artfire's Art Spigel.

The film is based on Michael Di Jiacomo's script, which in turn is based on a New Yorker article about the American-Chinese underworld. It follows two immigrants who move up the ranks of the Green Dragons gang and then "their struggle to confront their former associates after one of them is cast beyond the pale for his trysts with his clan chieftain."

This will be Lau's second English-language film after the straight-to-video film The Flock, which starred Richard Gere and was released in 2008. Lau also is slated to appear at the Hong Kong International Film Festival in March as its director-in-focus before the shoot.
