According to Deadline, Christian Bale is eyeing a leading role in Everest for Universal Pictures. Baltasar Kormakur (The Deep) is attached to direct the project, based on a disastrous expedition to the famous mountain in 1996.
The film has nothing to do with the film project of the same name being developed at Columbia pictures, with Tom Hardy set to star in that film. The film starring Hardy is set in the 1920's and focuses on George Mallory and his three attempts to become the first man to scale Everest.
