Universal chairman speaks on the project...
The Hollywood Reporter spoke with Universal Pictures chairman Adam Fogelson who talked about the potential future for a film adaptation of the hit stage musical Wicked.
Disney will be releasing Oz The Great And Powerful on March 8, which is an original story that sets itself up as a prequel to the original 1930's movie The Wizard of Oz. Wicked is another prequel story to the movie that goes in a different direction. It originated as a novel in 1995 by Gregory Maguire before it was adapted as a musical for the stage.
According to Fogelson: "Wicked has been an enormous win for this company [Universal is majority owner of the Broadway musical]. The way it works, we should be in agreement together on when the right time to do this is. But I will tell you I believe that we are collectively moving toward Wicked coming to the screen sooner rather than later."
