Then known as Lord of Light...
BuzzFeed has a story which interviews journalist Joshua Bearman. Bearman wrote the original article that was the basis for Ben Affleck's film Argo. Tony Mendez went to Iran incognito as a filmmaker trying to make a sci-fi film Argo in order to save six Americans who were trapped in the country. However the film concept that Mendez used was at some point really conceived to actually be made.
According to Bearman, Argo was titled as the Lord of Light, and "Argo was the name Tony [Mendez] gave to a script that was in turnaround and sitting in a pile at [makeup artist John] Chambers' house. That script was... adapted from a successful Roger Zelazny science-fantasy novel of the same name."
The project never took off as a movie project. Before it was shelved though, famed comic book artist Jack Kirby was hired to draw some concept art for the film. The art was previously archived as thumbnails as a fansite dedicated to Lord of Light. Here is the original artwork below:
