Keeping superhero movies fresh...
In an interview with Variety about keeping Marvel's superhero films fresh, Kevin Feige revealed that Captain America: The Winter Soldier is more like a political thriller. He's producing the next six films for Marvel (two per year for the next three years) which begins with Iron Man 3, out on May 3.
Feige, who just won the Motion Picture Showmanship Award from the ICG Publicists Guild, said: "We're entering that finishing crunch time where the days of the week have no meaning because you're working all seven of them."
He said that the challenge is to make sure each film is a fresh take on the genre. Having rich, three-dimensional characters and different storylines from the comics makes it easier. He also said that superhero movies are definitely not a "passing trend".
He added: "If it is a fad, it's one that lasts 30 to 40 years, as the Western did, because each one is so different. There's an opportunity to graft almost sub-genres onto them. Our first Captain America film was a World War II picture, and the next is a political thriller. They all have their own textures and patinas, and that's what is exciting about it."
