Deadline reports that Nickelodeon has renewed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for a third season.
While at the upfront presentation in New York, Viacom CEO Philippe Dauman said the network has "has hit the reset button" and is "reinventing itself." This will lead to a bigger investment in animation, including features for cartoon series, a Spongebob Squarepants 3D movie and Michael Bay's upcoming Ninja Turtles film, both of which will be out in 2014.
The network will also pick up Breadwinners a new cartoon based on the short by Gary "Doodles" DiRaffaele and writer Steve Borst (Mad). DiRaffaele and Borst came from Nickelodeon's Animation Shorts Program. They are also behind a new series about "booty-shaking ducks", which was given a 20-episode offer.
Breadwinners joins the new live action series The Haunted Hathaways, The Thundermans and Sam & Cat.
Nickelodeon Group president Cyma Zarghami said the network has had a "tough year" where "new competitors came on strong," a reference to Disney Jr. She plans to get the network back on track by targeting "post-millennial kids," born in and after 2008.
