AMC has announced that Scott M. Gimple is the new showrunner for The Walking Dead. AMC made the already-reported on news official today via press release. Gimple, who has been a part of the writing staff since the advent of season two, has written such episodes as the season two midseason finale "Pretty Much Dead Already" which saw the big reveal (and dispatching) of zombie Sophia as well as this season's "Hounded," which saw Merle kidnap Glenn and Maggie while Michonne appeared at the prison. He also wrote next week's episode "Clear" and the penultimate episode of the season, "This Sorrowful Life."
The network also revealed that Greg Nicotero and Tom Luse have been promoted to executive producers; they join Gimple, creator Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert on that level.
