Don't expect to see much of Earth...
In a Q&A on Formspring (via Daily Blam), James Gunn talked about his film Guardians of the Galaxy, which features a script by Nicole Perlman and Chris McCoyas. Chris Pratt (Parks and Recreation, Moneyball, Zero Dark Thirty) was cast as Peter Quill, aka Star Lord.
Here's a synopsis: U.S. fighter pilot Peter Quill ends up in space in the middle of a universal conflict and goes on the run with futuristic ex-cons -- Drax The Destroyer, a green warrior with the deadly purpose, a giant tree-man named Groot, Rocket Raccoon, a genetically engineered animal with a knack for guns and explosives and Gamora, an assassin and the last survivor of her species -- who have something everyone wants.
Here are highlights from the Q&A:
On rumors about the movie: "I can't even do any interviews at all right now. This is the closest thing. And - btw - I can't answer all these Guardians of the Galaxy questions right now. We have lots of surprises in store for you guys, but we can't let them out for a while. That said, don't believe everything your read! I am shrouding myself in secrecy for the time being so your enjoyment of GotG will be fully realized as we release the details little by little. TRUST ME."
On if doing screen tests already have a deal in place or do them without deals: "I think they can do either, but I've only ever done screen tests with people when they already have a deal in place."
On if this will be a part of Marvel's Cinematic Universe: "Same universe (different galaxy)."
The film will be released on August 1, 2014. It is the final solo film in Marvel's Phase 2 before The Avengers 2 on May 1, 2015. Others include Iron Man 3 (May 3, 2013), Thor: The Dark World (November 8, 2013) and Captain America: The Winter Soldier (April 4, 2014).
