He'll be replaced by Jesse L. Martin...
Deadline reports that Lenny Kravitz will no longer star in a Marvin Gaye biopic called Sexual Healing. He will be replaced by Jesse L. Martin (Law & Order) and the film will begin filming later this month in Europe.
Brendan Gleason will co-star. Martin was set to star in a version of the film produced by James Gandolfini five years ago. This version will instead be directed by Julien Temple (Absolute Beginners). Kravitz' casting originally drew criticism from Marvin Gay III who asked Kravitz to drop out and threatened legal action. The film is now on track as Vassal Benford and Fred Bestall are producing.
The film focuses on the time Gaye spent in Europe in the 1980s, where he was trying to fight his addictions and get his career back on track with the help of music promoter Freddy Cousaert (Gleason). Gaye was shot by his father and died in Los Angeles on April 1, 1984.
