Deadline reports that Melissa George has been cast for the lead role in the ABC drama pilot Gothica opposite Janet Montgomery.
The project is set in present day and was created by Matt Lopez and executive produced by Mark Gordon and Nick Pepper of The Mark Gordon Co. The show is said to weave together mythology that incorporates the legends of Dracula, Jekyll and Hyde, Frankenstein, and Dorian Gray. It will center on the journalist Grace Van Helsing (played by Montgomery) who takes over the family newspaper business of her hometown.
George plays Fiona Hunter who is said to be the show's "most formidable force" who tests the mettle and savvy of characters such as Dorian and Victor Frankenstein. George also recently starred in the BBC/Cinemax TV series Hunted.
