Lucas hoping to showcase populist art including comics...
The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Star Wars creator George Lucas has submitted a proposal for the art museum he would like to open in San Francisco's Presidio where he would like to showcase his personal art collection.
Lucas' proposal was one of 16 proposals submitted for the commissary site at Crissy Field which is now occupied by Sports Basement, which is now relocating. Lucas would like the museum to be a gathering place for families and collect "150 years of populist art, including the illustrations of Norman Rockwell and Maxfield Parrish, comics, children's books, fashion, cinema and digital technology."
Lucas hopes to display his massive art collection which is reportedly 95% in storage. Lucas joked, "I don't have enough walls [to display them]." If Lucas' proposal was selected, he'd be willing to cover the expenses all out of his own pocket with no cost to the Presidio Trust.
