[Movies] James McAvoy Says Xavier Will Have a Dark Journey in X-Men: Days Of Future Past
Posted by Jeremy Thomas on 03.12.2013

When we first saw James McAvoy's Charles Xavier in X-Men: First Class he was a much more light-hearted, fun-loving guy compared to the more serious mentor that we've come to know and love throughout the years both in comics and Patrick Stewart's role in the first three films. Now, McAvoy says we are likely to see that transition begin in X-Men: Days of Future Past.

McAvoy spoke with the Shortlist and said of Xavier, "I think it's going to be quite a dark journey compared to the caddish, almost playboy character that we turned him into in the first movie. I think it will be going through a darker place to ultimately get a sorted Professor X that we're used to seeing come the third movie. This movie might be a little bit more of a passing through the crucible for him."

McAvoy says he was also excited about the large cast, noting, "It's going to be a humongous cast. It's going to be like the cast of the beach scenes in Saving Private Ryan but everyone's a mutant and everyone you've seen in other movies before."

The film stars McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Lawrence, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Peter Dinklage, Anna Paquin, Halle Berry, Nicholas Hoult and Omar Sy and hits theaters on July 18th, 2014.
