Netflix believes streaming could be the first true test of 4K...
TheVerge spoke with Netflix Chief Product Officer Neil Hunt who said that the company is committed to implementing 4K streaming in the next two years as 4K Ultra HD becomes more prevalent.
Hunt believes that streaming could be the first arena for the 4K format, stating: "That's because of the challenges involved in upgrading broadcast technologies and the fact that it isn't anticipated within the Blu-ray disc standard. Clearly, we have much work to do with the compression and decode capability, but we expect to be delivering 4K within a year or two with at least some movies."
Hunt also talked about House of Cards, a Netflix-exclusive show starring Kevin Spacey that is filmed in the 4K standard.
Sony also recently announced that they are exploring a 4K streaming video service since the PS4 will be capable of displaying 4K content.
