[Movies] Escape From New York Remake Moving Forward Again

As a planned trilogy...
The Escape From New York remake is reportedly moving forward again. The oft-discussed remake, which was last reported on in 2010, is reportedly moving ahead with Joel Silver's Silver Pictures and Studio Canal. Deadline reports that the plan is to do a new take on the story and do a trilogy, which will start with an origin story. A writer is currently being sought.
The 1981 John Carpenter original starred Kurt Russell as Snake Plissken, a one-eyed former Special Forces operator/war hero in World War III turned criminal who is coerced into venturing into New York City--now an island-wide maximum security prison--to rescue the President as well as top-secret information that would allow the USA to be the dominant world power if used within twenty-four hours. The last attempt on a film that fell through would have seen Gerard Butler in the Plissken role with Len Wiseman (Underworld, Live Free or Die Hard) directing.
