[Movies] Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles Won't Be Getting a Kickstarter
Posted by Jeremy Thomas on 03.20.2013

With the previously-reported Veronica Mars movie Kickstarter becoming a blazing success, everyone is hoping that their fanboy favorite shows may be making a comeback, and that includes fans of FOX's prematurely-cancelled Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. However, don't hold your breath on that one. As producer Joel Friedman notes, the show is unlikely to see a revival in either a movie or television format because of both rights and budgetary issues. Friedman took to Twitter to respond to hopeful fans with the less-than-encouraging news:

All u asking about a TSCC kickstarter...rights situation, budget necessities, motivation of corporate entities make it HIGHLY unlikely.

Trust me guys, @AnnapurnaPics knows who I am. They just don't care. Their goal in life is not to make a TSCC movie.

I could hand @AnnapurnaPics $15mil and it'd be about $150mil short of what they want to do. They want to make Terminator movies, not TSCC.

know it's harsh but I can't imagine a scenario where there will ever be more TSCC in any form. We have what we have. #31

The Terminator rights are a notoriously convoluted situation; as Friedman notes, Annapurna Pictures has the rights to make least two more Terminator films; they bought the rights on auction in 2011 for $20 million after Halcyon Films filed for bankruptcy. Twentieth Century Fox TV and Warner Bros. TV were also production companies involved in the series. In addition, series star Lena Headey is busy with Game of Thrones.
