[Movies] Fatal Attraction Director To Adapt Novel Deep Water Posted by Joseph Lee on 04.27.2013
His first time directing in over a decade...
Deadline reports that director Adrian Lyne (Flashdance, 9 1/2 Weeks, Fatal Attraction, Indecent Proposal, Lolita) is on board to direct an adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's (Strangers on a Train, The Talented Mr. Ripley) novel Deep Water. This would be his first film since 2002's Unfaithful. Zach Helm (Stranger Than Fiction, Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium) wrote the script.
Lyne will make the film with Elizabeth Gabler of Fox 2000, who he worked with on Unfaithful (which starred Richard Gere, Diane Lane, and Olivier Martinez). The new film will be a co-production between Film Rites and Film 360.
The book follows Vic and Melinda, a married couple who play mind games with each other that end up in someone's death. There is reportedly talks with a big star for the film, and if it works out then that person's schedule will determine when production stars. Producers Ben Forkner (who is producing with Film 360's Guymon Casady and Film Rites' Garrett Basch and Steve Zaillian) went to Zurich eight years ago to get the rights from the Highsmith estate. Since then, they've been working on a script.
