The Hollywood Reporter has published an article on the additional footage for the international version of Iron Man 3 made exclusively for audiences in China. Below are some of the changes:
- Before the movie opens, a question appears on the screen asking "What does Iron Man rely on to revitalize his energy?" The screen then dissolves to the answer, "Gu Li Duo." Gu Li Duo is milk-based drink sold in China, essentially making the new opening a commercial for a product.
- The rest of the additional footage for the international version reportedly amounts to four minutes. The new footage is said to prominently feature actor Wang Xueqi as Dr. Wu. Dr. Wu does briefly appear in the American version. Also during an all-Chinese conversation, Iron Man can be seen on a television playing with children at a Chinese landmark. Dr. Wu doesn't appear again in the Chinese cut until the end where he is shown operating on Stark and having a conversation with his unnamed assistant played by Chinese star actress Fan Bingbing.
