[Movies] Iron Man 3 Grosses Estimated $68 Million on Opening Day
Posted by Jeffrey Harris on 05.04.2013

ERC Box Office and Edward Douglas (via ComingSoon.net) report that Iron Man 3 brought in an estimated $68.5 million for its opening day on Friday, May 3.

The opening day goes among the top 10 best opening days ever, but falls short of last year's The Avengers, also from Marvel, which had an opening day of $80.8 million. Also The Dark Knight Rises ($75.7 million), Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 ($91 million), and three of The Twilight Saga movies opened higher. Iron Man 3 tied with The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.

The movie is on track to gross anywhere from $165 million and up for its opening weekend, depending on how well business holds on Saturday. The movie's A CinemaScore is a good sign for positive word-of-mouth to carry the movie through for a strong weekend.

The Avengers currently holds the largest opening weekend ever record at $207.4 million. So Iron Man 3 would likely take second place or place third behind Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 which held the opening weekend record for ten months with $169.2 million.
