UPDATEDx5: [Gossip] Amanda Bynes Arrested for Marijuana Possession
Posted by AJ Grey on 05.24.2013

UPDATE 5: TMZ reports that the New York Police Department headed back to Amanda Bynes' apartment building on Friday, taking statements from witnesses for the case against her on marijuana possession, attempted evidence tampering and reckless endangerment. Law enforcement sources say that the police took statements from the night doorman and who employees who were there when Bynes was smoking pot in the lobby.

Police also went up to Bynes' floor to take other statements.

Meanwhile, Bynes posted the following to Twitter:

UPDATE 4: E! News has the details on Amanda Bynes' court appearance today after she was arrested Thursday night for reckless endangerment, tampering with evidence and possession of marijuana. Bynes attended the hearing wearing the same clothes that she was in last night, and reportedly "looked disheveled and anxious," constantly trying to fix the wig she was wearing.

During the hearing, Bynes' lawyer asked that she be released without bail because "the police unlawfully followed her into her apartment." The judge in the case was said to be "stern" throughout the hearing and snarked at Bynes' lawyer when he said she'd never been in trouble before, firing back, "not in this state."

Bynes' next court date is on July 9th and she must be in attendence. The Burbank district attorney said that he could file a motion to violate her probation on driving with a suspended license. She could face six months in jail and a $1,000 fine for that.

UPDATE 3: In Touch Weekly is reporting that Amanda Bynes actually called 911 herself during her drug arrest last night. This was after police responded to her apartment building when called about Bynes smoking in the lobby.

A source said: "She called 911, saying cops were going to assault her."

Police at the scene decided to take her to Roosevelt Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation due to her behavior. She was then taken to Central Booking and processed.

This comes after In Touch's photos taken inside her apartment during a party that showed poor living conditions and Bynes herself on a bare mattress smoking a joint. She was also shown applying makeup with a strange man "dancing behind her, and smoking weed with her," according to a photographer using the name "Joe" (he doesn't want his real name used).

Her changed appearance and bizarre tweets have caused others to think she has mental problems. She recently defended herself to In Touch saying she doesn't smoke pot and is "not crazy."

UPDATE 2: TMZ now reports that Amanda Bynes has been released on her own recognizance in New York City. This was after she tried to claim that the bong she threw from her apartment window last night as "just a vase".

Prosecutors requested she be held for a $1,000 bail, but the judge let her go without bail and told her if she didn't show up for her court date in July, there would be a warrant issued for her arrest. She was escorted out by an officer and left on her own in a taxi.

The official criminal complaint says a man in her building told police he saw her smoking a joint in the first floor lobby. An officer went to her room and saw a bong on the kitchen counter. The cop, wearing a "full police uniform", asked about the bong, and she lost her cool.

The officer said: "I observed [Amanda] grab said bong, run to the westbound-facing window, and throw it out the window where numerous pedestrians were walking on the 8 Avenue and West 47 Street sidewalks below."

She was arrested and eventually charged with attempted evidence tampering, reckless endangerment and marijuana possession

UPDATE: TMZ reports that Amanda Bynes has arrived in court to face a judge after her arrest in New York City last night. She was wearing the same clothes and blonde wig she wore last night. She was led to the courtroom in handcuffs after spending the night in jail. She asked photographers not to shoot her and tried to hide her face.

TMZ also has a photo of Bynes' mug shot, in which she had to remove her wig to reveal a shaved head. She wore a black shirt and appeared to be very angry when she posed for the photo.

Original: Amanda Bynes has been arrested in New York for marijuana possession. TMZ reports that Amanda was arrested after police showed up responding to a call about a disorderly person at her apartment building. Amanda was reportedly behaving erratically, such as talking to herself.

When the police showed up Amanda flipped out and began kicking and screaming as she was arrested, yelling "Don't you know who I am?"

Sources with law enforcement say she has been charged with criminal possession of marijuana, reckless endangerment and tampering with evidence. The latter two charges are because she allegedly threw a bong out of her apartment window; the evidence tampering charge is a felony.
