[Movies] LEGO Announces Build Sets And Video Game For The Lego Movie
Posted by Joseph Lee on 07.16.2013

Superhero Hype reports that the LEGO Group has announced new building sets, a video game and more merchandise for The Lego Movie.

Jill Wilfert, Vice President of Licensing and Entertainment for The LEGO Group, said: "The LEGO brand has been a vehicle for creative storytelling around the world for decades, so it's no surprise that there is such growing enthusiasm for the first LEGO theatrical film. We are thrilled to collaborate with our valued partners to build a varied and compelling portfolio of products through which fans of all ages can celebrate this LEGO brand milestone."

This includes new building sets with minifigure characters based on those in the movie. There will be seventeen sets in all, recreating scenes from the film. These include detailed and functional vehicles and structures including City, Wild West and Space. Those attending Comic-Con in San Diego can see the first set at the LEGO booth (#2829) on Saturday, July 20. The Lego minifigures will have a cast of sixteen new and "new-again" characters.

Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment also announced that TT Games, makers of the LEGO video games, will create a game based on the film on all console and handheld game systems. It will feature over ninety characters inspired by the movie and fifteen levels.

There will also be several licenses for the film. Publishing partners Scholastic, Penguin, Ameet and DK Publishing will offer readers, sticker books, activity books and movie guides. Apparel partners include T-shirts from Mad Engine, Isaac Morris, Kabooki, TV Mania and Casco Blu, hoodies from TV Mania, pajamas from SGI Apparel, TV Mania and Kabooki and undergarments from Handcraft Mfg. and Kabooki. Carry Gear and Grown Up provide backpacks and cinch bags. Clic Time will produce clocks and buildable watches. MZB Imagination and Funtastic will create notebooks, journals, folders, pens, pencils and pencil cases, erasers, rulers and luggage/bag tags. IQ HK will make key lights with movie characters. Storage partner ROOM Copenhagen is producing a lunchbox, lunch set, drinking bottle and storage and sorting boxes.

The film opens in February 2014 in 3D.

Here's a synopsis: The 3D computer animated adventure tells the story of Emmet, an ordinary, rules-following, perfectly average LEGO minifigure who is mistakenly identified as the most extraordinary person and the key to saving the world. He is drafted into a fellowship of strangers on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant, a journey for which Emmet is hopelessly and hilariously underprepared.

The film features the voices of Chris Pratt, Will Ferrell, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Nick Offerman, Alison Brie and Charlie Day, with Liam Neeson and Morgan Freeman. It is written and directed by Phil Lord & Christopher Miller (21 Jump Street, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs) based on a story by Lord, Miller, Dan Hageman and Kevin Hageman. It will have popular LEGO figures with new characters. It is produced by Dan Lin (Sherlock Holmes, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows) and Roy Lee (The Departed, How to Train Your Dragon). and distributed by Warner Bros Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures.
