[Movies] Johnny Depp Says He Was Almost Fired From Pirates of the Caribbean
Posted by Larry Csonka on 07.30.2013

- During a recent interview, Johnny Depp spoke about almost being fired from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise before it got rolling. Disney executives reportedly didn't understand the performance of Jack Sparrow, which was based on Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones. Depp explains…

They couldn't understand what I was doing. You know? To the point where Disney wanted to – wanted to fire me. They didn't understand the character. They were actually contemplating subtitling the film.

I was probably as close to getting fired as anyone could be. I spoke to one of the execs at the time and said, 'You're right, you should fire me – but you'll have to pay me for my time'."
