The rise and fall of the biker...
Deadline reports that Bradley Cooper is in talks to sign on to the Lance Armstrong biopic Red Blooded American as a producer and one of the two major roles. One of those roles is Armstrong and the other is Tyler Hamilton. Hamilton is a former teammate of Armstrong's who was part of his "inner circle" on the US Postal Service Team. Hamilton is the one who revealed what he saw Armstrong doing in an interview with 60 Minutes. He was the target of attacks by Armstrong's for breaking a "closed circle". Armstrong had been accused of doping several times but had always denied it. Armstrong, a 7-time Tour de France champion, was disgraced and had his titles taken away when he admitted to doping.
The film is being made by Warner Bros, Atlas Entertainment and director Jay Roach. They are looking to fast track the production.
Meanwhile, Working Title and director Stephen Frears are working on their own Armstrong film that stars Ben Foster as cyclist from a script by John Hodge (Trainspotting). That film could start shooting in the fall. Paramount Pictures is working on another film with Bad Robot's JJ Abrams and Bryan Burk. That one is based on Cycle of Lies: The Fall of Lance Armstrong, a book by New York Times sportswriter Juliet Macur. When Armstrong admitted to cheating, Cooper was approached by Abrams to play Armstrong, according to rumors.
Red Blooded American is based on a script by Scott Z. Burns (Side Effects). It is produced by Atlas Entertainment's Charles Roven and Alex Gartner, along with Roach and Cooper. CBS News executive producer and senior producer for 60 Minutes, Michael Radutzky, will also produced. Radutzky was involved in Hamilton's TV appearance.
