Or maybe he's lying...
In an interview with Shock Till You Drop to promote James Wan's Insidious: Chapter 2, Patrick Wilson said that the sequel to The Conjuring may not take place in Amityville as the end of the film hinted. It's all but official that there will be a new film, as it has already earned nearly $200 million worldwide for New Line Cinema after its July 19 release.
Wilson, along with Vera Farmiga, played Ed and Lorraine Warren, two paranormal investigators that helped the Perron family who were terrorized by a demonic force in their new home. This was one of several real-life Warren cases. Writers Chad and Carey Hayes said they were interested in having the sequel explore a 1970s incident in Enfield, England with two sisters who were allegedly possessed.
Wilson said: "Chad and Carey, the writers, they sort of let this cat out of the bag, so I'm just confirming their gossip, which is they were interested in a story in London, overseas, of some sisters that were possessed. I don't know, I haven't seen the script."
The book The Demonologist: The Extraordinary Career of Ed and Lorraine Warren has details on several cases that the couple have handled. The book also looks at how the two discovered their abilities and found each other. When that angle was mentioned for the sequel (while noting that Wilson and Farmiga wouldn't be involved), Wilson joked: "What are you saying I can't play young?"
The end of the first film seemed to hint a follow-up would take place at the location of The Amityville Horror, even though the Hayes' are interested in the Enfield case. Wilson said: "I can imagine it won't be Amityville. Well, maybe they'll drop more hints of that. Or maybe it will be Amityville and I'm completely lying."
