[Movies] Bryan Cranston Cast as Lex Luthor in Man of Steel 2?
Posted by Jeremy Thomas on 08.25.2013

This is still an entirely unconfirmed report, so don't get too excited yet. But Comic Book News reports that Bryan Cranston has been cast as Lex Luthor in Man of Steel 2. The site has previously reported that the role was cast but didn't say who; they now cite an unidentified source as saying that Cranston has taken on the role.

The idea is not without precedence; Cranston previously said he'd love to take on the role. According to the site, an official announcement will come following the end of Breaking Bad so WB can "dovetail off the end of that."

The site also claims that DC wants their main characters for their movie universe to appear or at least be mentioned in all DC comics movies going forward, a la Marvel's Cinematic Universe. They also claim that WB wants to bring in Matt Damon for Aquaman or Martian Manhunter "now that Affleck is on board" as Batman.

Finally, they note that Mark Strong had been in consideration for the Luthor role but that his role as Sinestro worked against him. Again, this is all unconfirmed information and the idea that they would want to bring in Damon just for stunt casting to pair him with Affleck would seems to be a credibility-killer to me, so take it with a grain (or a handful) of salt until we get official confirmation.

Warner Bros. has yet to respond to a request for comment.
