Created by Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger...
Deadline reports that writer-directors Brian Koppelman and David Levien have been tapped to showrun a long-gestating rock ‘n roll drama for Martin Scorsese, Mick Jagger, and Terence Winter.
The two will reportedly rewrite Winter's pilot script. The untitled show, which was created by Scorsese and Winter with Jagger, has been in the works at HBO since 2010. It's moved slowly due to their busy schedules.
The project would follow the exploits of Richie (Bobby Cannavale), a record executive in New York City circa 1977, a time when punk, disco and a new form of music called hip-hop collided. Richie is elevated to run a big label, even though he feels better suited for day-to-day music matters.
The project originally was envisioned as a film after Jagger suggested to Scorsese that they should make a movie like Casino in the world of the music business. Scorsese, Jagger, Winter, Jagged Films' Victoria Pearman, Sikelia president Emma Tillinger Koskoff and Rick Yorn are executive producers on the show.
