Getting the help she needs...
Radar Online reports that Amanda Bynes may remain hospitalized until 2014. Her doctors at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center will send a recommendation to the judge overseeing her mother Lynn's conservatorship bid, claiming that Bynes needs long-term hospitalization. She is currently being treated for a series mental health disorder and is under a temporary conservatorship of her mother. A hearing is set for September 30 to see if it will be made permanent.
After months of bizarre behavior, Bynes was involuntarily committed to a psychiatric hospital after she lit a stranger's driveway on fire in Thousand Oaks, California. Lynn then had her moved to the Ventury County facility to the UCLA hospital.
Doctors have "been observing Amanda, and there has been some improvement…however, her diagnosis is complex, and the appropriate drug cocktail to treat her hasn't been achieved yet."
A source said: "Therefore, her treatment team believes Amanda would benefit from prolonged treatment at UCLA, for at least the rest of the year. She has her good days and bad days, and the goal is obviously to get her therapeutic and stable before being released. Lynn needs to be granted permanent conservatorship because Amanda wouldn't agree to continue with treatment. "
While she hasn't been diagnosed with schizophrenia, the source said that "she is being treated for it."
The source added: "There is such a negative stigma with schizophrenia….given time and the correct treatment and medicine, Amanda could and should absolutely be able to live with it and be a productive member of society. In fact, she wouldn't likely suffer from symptoms of it if she stays on her medication."
