With an older Patrick Bateman...
The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that FX is developing a sequel TV series to American Psycho. The series will be created by Allison Shearmur, writer Stefan Jaworski and Lionsgate Television.
The series is a follow-up to both the 1991 novel by Bret Easton Ellis and the 2000 film of the same name that starred Christian Bale. Both are set in the 1980s with Patrick Bateman enjoying a high-class lifestyle with his similarly minded friends, while moonlighting as a serial killer. The end of the film, however, suggests that all of the events may have been in his head. The film was written by Mary Harron and Guinevere Turner, with Harron directing. It earned $34 million worldwide.
The series will have Bateman in his mid-50s taking on a protégé in a sadistic social experiment. He hopes to create a killer that is his equal.
Shearmur (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire), the Lionsgate president of motion picture production, will executive produce with Ed Pressman and Jaworski (Those Who Kill).
